Dear Shimotsu Parents,
I hope your summer break was relaxing and safe. I would like to take this opportunity to offer a warm welcome to our new Shimotsu parents and to welcome back those of you who are already part of our family. We would like to take some time to let you know that we have missed our students and are anxiously awaiting their return. There is something that warms our hearts when we have our children back at school learning, exploring and having fun.
Below I have included some basic procedures in order to have a safe and efficient start of what I know will be another successful year.
- August 23, 2018 will be “Meet the Teacher Night”.Class lists will be posted in hallways and teachers will be waiting in the rooms to greet you.
- First day of school is Monday, August 27th
- Classes start at 8:00 a.m., school doors open at 7:15 for early arrivals.
- Lunch:To give students a chance to adjust to school routines and procedures, lunch visitors will not be allowed during the first two weeks of school. After the first two weeks, parents will be allowed to sit with their child at the parent table.
- Cafeteria payment plans:Cafeteria personnel will be available to take lunch payments on “Meet the Teacher Night” or you can also pay on the first day of school before your child’s lunch period or online.You can pay daily, weekly or monthly.
- Students are considered tardy after 8:05 and a tardy pass from the office is needed to enter the classroom.
- Dismissal time is at 3:30 p.m. for all students.More information about West and Southside dismissal and drop-off areas will be provided during “Meet the Teacher Night”.
- Excused and unexcused absences:For any absence please notify the office or send an absence excuse notification immediately upon returning to school.Students have three days after returning to school to submit an excuse, otherwise the absence will be considered unexcused.
- Sign In:All adult visitors are required to sign in at the front desk and show I.D.
- Walking students to class:Parents with children in 1st thru 6th grade will be allowed to walk their children to their classrooms the first five days of school.PK and Kinder parents will be allowed to walk their children the first two weeks of school.
- Lost Items:To avoid lost backpacks, lunch boxes, sweaters and jackets, please label all items.
