Library Mission Statement
The mission of the Shimotsu Elementary Library is to support and enhance the educational goals of Sharyland ISD and Shimotsu Elementary by providing a safe, inclusive, and resource-rich environment that inspires curiosity, fosters a love of reading, and empowers all students to become critical thinkers, effective researchers, and lifelong learners prepared for a changing world.

Check-out Policy

In an effort to instill good reading habits, responsibility, and to cultivate a positive library experience, the following guidelines will be used by patrons when visiting the library.
1. Students in grades 1-6 will be allowed to check out three books at a time. Books will be loaned for a period of two weeks. Students in Kinder will be allowed to check out one book at a time.
2. Students who have late books will be limited in the number of books they may check out until the late books are returned.
3. Damaged or lost books must be paid for in a timely manner. Students will be limited in checking out books until payment for lost or damaged books has been made.
4. Parents do not have library accounts. They may check out books for their child under the student account.

How do I pay for a lost library book?
First, have you looked for the book? Check at home, in your car, and in your backpack.
Second, ask the librarian for the title of the book and the exact price.

Elementary District Novel List
Teachers may read down the list. Please do not use a title designated for an upper grade. Verify with your campus librarian before teaching or acquiring a new novel.
Your campus librarian may also have supplemental materials such as teacher guides, curriculum resources, audio books, and websites for your instructional use.
