Shimotsu Elementary is Keeping it Fresh

Last Monday, February 24th, Kurt went to meet with the student council at Shimotsu Elementary to discuss our latest nutrition project.  I have asked one of the members of the student council to write an article about the project- and here it is:

STxIH is doing a study on which storage container will keep food fresher longer.  We are doing this because we think that more people will be encouraged to buy healthier foods if they can keep it longer.  A lot of people will buy unhealthy food such as chips because it doesn't go bad as fast as something like fruit, so if they can keep the fruit longer with the storage container, they will be better off eating it at dinner than eating the chips.  We are also doing this project so that people will get more for their money by chosing the container that was proven to keep the food fresher.  This project is taking place at 12 Harry Shimotsu Elementary students' homes.  Each of these 12 students have taken home 3 storage containers that all claim on the label that they will keep food fresh.  Each of the students have chosen one of the 3 fruits which are strawberries, blackberries and blueberries.  Only the fruit they choose is in their containers.  These students have taken their share of containers home, and placed them in the fridge and each day they thoroughly inspect the fruit in the containers to make sure they have not spoiled.  They are keeping data from each day on a science log table.  This project will take six weeks to complete, and we are all excited to see the results.  We will post the results on the website so you can see it too.  Lastly, we all hope we can help the community through this project.

I couldn't have said it better myself...Thanks Paige.
