Biography

Mary K. Kobyluch marykobyluch@sharylandisd.org

If you would have asked me in elementary school what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have said a teacher.  I have been teaching for 21 years now.  My first 5 years were spent in Los Fresnos CISD teaching 4th grade. I arrived in Sharyland ISD at John H. Elementary for 4 years as the 4th grade writing teacher. Finally, I transferred to Harry Shimotsu Elementary because I lived in the Sharyland Plantation. The staff and students here are the best in the valley !

I was born and raised in Toledo, OhioMy husband, Frank, and I met in college and have been married since January, 1977. Frank has recently retired from the maquiladora industry.  We have two amazing children: JR, a Partner with Price Waterhouse Cooper in Dallas and Kari a 5th grade teacher in McAllen ISD.  Our new passion is being grandparents to Ella, Jackson, and Kenzi.  What a blessing grandchildren are!  Those three amaze us daily!! Over the years I went on to graduate from UT - Brownsville in 1995 with my Bachelor's degree in English and Reading.  I also received my Masters in Educational Leadership through UTPA in 2004. I was honored to be voted  "Teacher of the Year" at Shimotsu in 2014.  I am fortunate to work with such a dedicated and talented group of teachers every day.

I am passionate about connecting classroom learning with real life experiences and creating lifelong readers.  In the classroom, I hold very high expectations with a rigorous and disciplined academic workload, yet the environment is also peppered with humor, compassion, and fun.  I am looking forward to a great school year!
