Mrs. Erika Munoz

Mrs. Erika Munoz

I am Mrs. Erika Munoz, Assistant Principal of Harry Shimotsu Elementary. I am a lifelong educator who started serving and teaching students  twenty six years ago.  My career began with the opportunity, I had as a young girl,  to achieve and accomplish educational goals far away from home.
I was born and raised in Santiago, Chile, graduated from high school and was awarded a scholarship to study in the United States. I attended the University of Texas at Arlington, graduated with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in English with minor in Spanish. I also obtained my Education Certification from Texas Woman's University.
As I entered the field of education, I became very interested in pursuing the Montessori methodology for teaching young children. Therefore I obtained the Montessori Elementary Certification from Houston and Dallas Montessori AMS (American Montessori) Centers. Before relocating in South Texas, I completed a Masters Degree in Education Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
My teaching experience began at a private Montessori school in Arlington,  working with all grade levels and teaching all subjects. Later I was given the opportunity to start the Montessori Elementary program in the Fort Worth ISD schools where I taught for fifteen years.
I have been with Sharyland ISD for the past nine years, seven of which  have been as Shimotsu's Assistant Principal. I am honored to be  part of Shimotsu and to work serving this extraordinary learning community.
My professional life as well as my personal life have been blessed throughout the years. Therefore I can say that my heart  belongs to the three places that have shaped my life; to the beautiful Andes Mountain region  where I was born; to the Dallas Fort Worth area where I raised my two sons; and to the peaceful and welcoming South Texas Valley that I now call home.
